Manager, Commercial Affairs - Pharmaceuticals
Location: Halifax

Manager, Commercial Affairs - Pharmaceuticals:  Atlantic Canada, based in Halifax, NS

Position Purpose:

Primary objective is to ensure sales growth of promoted products with targeted physicians. He or she cultivates collaborative business relationships with current and future key physicians. The MCA develops and conducts speaker programs and symposia.

Major Responsibilities / Accountabilities:

  • Plan and organize activities and resources, so that sales goals are consistently met or exceeded.
  • Develop and maintain relationships with key opinion leaders.
  • Conduct speakers programs and educational symposia in their assigned territory.
  • Develop business with targeted physicians in specialized areas.
  • Provide necessary information to physicians to improve their knowledge of disease, diagnosis and promoted products.
  • Respond to product inquiries in a detailed manner.
  • Responsible for field activities associated with implementation of medical education programs.
  • Encourage pharmacovigilance with physicians and pharmacists for promoted products.
  • Keep an updated database of physicians and retail pharmacies within territory.
  • Provide feedback on the development and execution of marketing and sales strategies.

Job Scope:

Primarily responsible for the promotion of products with targeted physicians.

Interaction (level of positions, nature of interaction, frequency):

Internal Contacts:

  • Has contact with Marketing, Medical Marketing and Regulatory Affairs.

External Contacts:

  • Frequent interaction with physicians in hospitals and the community, as well as nurse coordinators and pharmacists.

Knowledge/Skill Requirements:

Education: Minimum requirements include a Bachelor degree in a scientific or medically related field or equivalent.

Experience: A minimum of five years of pharmaceutical or biological sales experience, and a minimum of three years of specialty sales experience.  Candidate must be a self-starter with a proven track record of high performance and solid business acumen.

Skills and Capabilities: (Specific abilities needed for the position)

  • Excellent time management and organizational skills.
  • Excellent written and oral communication skills.
  • Strong interpersonal skills.
  • Extensive knowledge of Microsoft Office, Lotus Notes and Internet.
  • Strong team player
  • Willing to travel (approximately 40%).
